The brother of Terri Schiavo, famous in the estate planning world for issues surrounding her diagnosis of Persistent Vegetative State (PVS), is warning of a possible weakening in Catholic teaching in favor of providing basic care for the incapacitated.
The brother, Bobby Schindler, warns that unclear writings of the Pontifical Academy for Life (PAL) seemingly reinterpret the use of feeding tubes for nutrition and hydration as “technology” rather than “basic care” and worries that the Church will fail to insist that this basic care be provided in the case of PVS patients.
Schindler also points out the subjective shortcomings of PVS as a diagnosis, resulting in many misdiagnosed patients.
On a brighter note, there are recent reports of a major surge in young conservatives entering the priesthood and signs they will soon replace the persistent vegetative statists infesting our clergy.
