At the home, Smith tied up his wife using rope, handcuffs and tape. Smith then used his wife’s phone to text Pearce and tell him to come over. Pearce came to the residence. He tried to call 911, but then Cody Smith shot him four times.The sheriff said Smith continued to assault his wife and then untied her and began to set the house on fire. At that point, she was able to get free from him and shot her husband once and killed him.
