Fire at will:

Hard to be certain based on a short news account, and I am not very familiar with Louisiana law on self-defense. Perhaps due to its proximity to Texas it allows use of deadly force in some situations to protect property. But that is definitely not allowed in most jurisdictions. And it looks like that is what happened here. The driver was allowed to leave the car and appeared to engage solely to prevent theft of his vehicle. If he’d engaged sooner, I would be more sympathetic.

The Uber driver said he drove to an unknown location near Bienville and N. Telemachus streets where the two men told the driver to get out. The driver said he then got out of the car and fired a gun at the two men, hitting one of them.
