As Santo was ringing up a customer, a masked male entered the store and demanded money from him at gunpoint at about 8:40 p.m., police said. Santo, whose mother also was also in the store, said the suspect first told him to hand over cash in English. He then said the same thing in Spanish, he said. That’s when Santo grabbed a shotgun he had hidden below the counter and fired a round into the suspect. The suspect, described as a black male who is about 6 feet tall, ran out of the store after he was struck.
