I’ve seen some awful bank decor, but some additional training might have helped here.

Both Ross and Dial said the robber made that threatening gesture before he left. That’s when Dial fired the shot that ended up hitting the lobby couch. Dial was calm when he talked about the experience, but said that wasn’t the case when it was happening. “This is my first experience with a bank robbery,” he said.

At least he took a step to defend himself, and was somewhat prepared. Give the man another bank account!
